Less than one week after the resignation of UUA President Peter Morales, two more members of the UUA Leadership Council have resigned their positions.
As reported by UU World, these most recent resignations are by the Rev. Harlan Limpert, chief operating officer; and the Rev. Scott Tayler, director of congregational life.
The resignations follow an outcry over UUA hiring practices and a lack of diversity among its senior leadership.
“Tayler has been at the center of the controversy, which erupted after he hired a white man, the Rev. Andy Burnette, to replace another white man as leader of the UUA’s Southern Region, when a woman of color, religious educator and church administrator Christina Rivera, applied for but did not receive the job. All five regional leads are white. Burnette and Rivera were both UUA trustees when they applied for the position.”
Rivera, who identified herself to colleagues as a finalist for the position, told UU World that she had been told she was not “the right fit for the team.”
