December means “Guest at Your Table”, the time when UU congregations think of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and the tremendous work that they do throughout the world. Our Social Justice and Action Committee has selected UUSC as the recipient of our third Sunday offering for December (Click HERE for the full post on the RVUUF blog).
For those who may not be familiar with the UUSC it was started in World War II with the heroic work of Martha and Waitstill Sharp, helping Jews and dissidents escaping from the hands of the Nazis in Czechoslovakia. The work continues today addressing injustice around the world. They are working with Rohingya activists in Burma, indigenous tribes in Texas and Louisiana, and giving assistance to asylum seekers on our Southern border, to just mention a few of their projects. Where it makes sense, they work with other justice organizations to amplify the impact of their work. Watch for the brief presentation at our Coffee Hour on the December 20th, or just watch the video below. We hope you will give generously to help further their work.
