Here’s a look at services taking place in September 2016. Services take place at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday in RVUUF’s Great Hall. Gathering music begins at 10:25 a.m.
Sept. 4: Humanist Sunday, Unity in Diversity
RVUUF’s Humanists, who have been meeting for more than three decades, will explore the many varieties of Humanist philosophy and personal viewpoints including Unitarian Universalism and Hinduism. They will delve in to how Humanism invites us into civil discourse about our diverse ideas, and then you can dive in to the conversation during their question-and-answer session, always a highlight of their annual service.
Sept. 11: Water Ceremony
RVUUF’s annual ingathering water ceremony is Sept. 11. Everyone will be invited to briefly share the meaning you’ve gained in your life over the summer months using water as a symbol of that meaning. Bring a small container of water to pour into the common bowl during the service after sharing your summer experience. Often at this annual water ceremony we hear only about where you may have traveled during the summer, and this year we are asking you to reflect more deeply about how the summer days have impacted your life. The continuous gun violence tragedies and the political rhetoric challenges us to dig deeper into how life matters to us all. A picnic will follow the service in the side yard. All are invited.
Sept. 18: Mission with Meaning: ‘Embrace’
RVUUF’s new mission is brief and powerful, especially when you have an understanding of each word that makes up the mission, which is, to embrace diversity, empower connection, engage in the work. This service begins our dive into the first word “Embrace” to discover what it might mean. Rev. White’s sermon title is “Mission with Meaning: ‘Embrace.’” Following the service she will teach a class on the Unitarian Universalist Principles from noon to 1 p.m. in the library. All are invited to attend.
Sept. 25: Mission with Meaning: ‘Diversity’
Sunday’s service will continue the dive into the words of RVUUF’s mission including a time for discussion in small groups. The second word of the mission, “Diversity,” will be the focus of Rev. White’s sermon, titled “Mission with Meaning: ‘Diversity.’” This service offers you the opportunity to share what you think the phrase “Embrace Diversity” means to you and to hear from the people in your small group. Come and participate in an important exchange between members and guests of RVUUF making meaning together.
