Sunday services, October 2016

Here’s a look at services taking place in October 2016. Services take place at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday in RVUUF’s Great Hall. Gathering music begins at 10:25 a.m.

Oct. 2: Mission with Meaning: ‘Empower’
The new mission of RVUUF is brief and powerful: “Embrace diversity, empower connection, engage in the work.” On Sunday, Oct. 2, we’ll continue our dive into the words, focusing on “Empower” to discover what it might mean. Rev. White’s sermon title is “Mission with Meaning: ‘Empower.’” Following the service, the Path to Membership class, for those interested in becoming a member of RVUUF, will be offered from noon to 1 p.m. in RVUUF’s library. All are invited to attend.

Oct. 9: Mission with Meaning: ‘Connection’
Sunday’s service will continue the dive into the words of RVUUF’s mission including a time for discussion in small groups. “Connection” is the fourth word of the mission, and Rev. White’s sermon is titled “Mission with Meaning: ‘Connection.’” This service offers you the opportunity to share what you think the phrase “Empower Connection” means to you and to hear from the people in your small group. Come and participate in an important exchange between members and guests of RVUUF making meaning together.

Oct. 16: Mission with Meaning: ‘Engage’
Rev. White’s sermon title is “Mission with Meaning: ‘Engage.’” Rev. White will offers ways in which Unitarian Universalists engage in the world that brings meaning, and how it might connect to RVUUF’s mission in the Rogue Valley. Following the service is a soup luncheon. A class on Unitarian Universalism for those interested in becoming a member will be held in the library from noon to 1 p.m.

Oct. 23: Our Mountain Temples
Taking a break from our focus on RVUUF’s mission, the Worship Team has invited Gordon O’Hara to speak. He is a member of the Grants Pass UU congregation. The title of his presentation is “Our Mountain Temples.”

Oct. 30: Engage in the Work
The last phrase of RVUUF’s mission, “Engage in the work,” will be discussed in small groups after Worship Leader Mary Rexford gives a homily. Mary was one of the members of the writing team for RVUUF’s new mission: “Embrace diversity, empower connection, engage in the work.” Come and participate in an important exchange between members and guests of RVUUF making meaning together as we reflect together on what “engage in the work” means to us.
