Sunday services in September 2018

Here’s a look at services taking place in September 2018. Services take place at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday in RVUUF’s Great Hall. Gathering music begins at 10:25 a.m.

Sept. 2: The Search for Solidarity
This Labor Day, can we imagine a world where people unite around issues of labor justice, racial justice, and environmental justice? Can we counter the work of the powerful, who continue to try to undermine the power of the people with messages of division and prejudice? Can Labor Day help center a message of solidarity that can help create change in our world?

Sept. 9: Gathering Like Water
In our annual Water Ceremony, we take time to intentionally regather our stories, hopes, and strength in covenanted community so that we can be ready for adventures to come. We will celebrate the ways our lives flow, and the joyful truth that we are stronger and more beautiful together.

Sept. 16: Imagine: Playing and Planning
It’s time we begin to explore what’s next for RVUUF, our continuing commitments, and the ways we will live out our mission as we move forward from our developmental tasks to what comes next. Join Rev. Sean as he introduces the questions that will guide our congregational conversation about the future.

Sept. 23: What They Dreamed Be Ours to Do
The traditional hymn, “Rank by Rank,” is often sung as a reminder that we are part of something greater than ourselves: a long line of people who fought for a better world. It is a reminder that we do not dream alone, nor are we free to give up on the dreams of those who came before. We are not only working to fulfill the dream of peace, justice, and compassion, but to improve upon it.

Sep. 30: It Doesn’t Have To Be the Way It Is: The Visionary Imagination of Ursula LeGuin
When we stretch the bounds of our imagination, we make room for a broader vision of what is possible. We will follow LeGuin to distant worlds where we’ll find important truths for us here on Earth.
