Here’s a look at services taking place in October 2018. Services take place at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday in RVUUF’s Great Hall. Gathering music begins at 10:25 a.m.
Oct. 7: A Living Sanctuary
Each of us needs a place of sanctuary, where we will be welcomed, nourished, held, heard, and forgiven for our mistakes. Our congregations are meant to be this kind of place and our covenant is the means by which it is continually created and recreated. Today we welcome new members, opening our hearts and refreshing our commitment to our community.
Oct. 14: Would You Harbor Me?
Our congregations are not meant only for ourselves. One of the foremost commitments of Unitarian Universalism is to work to end the suffering of those most at risk in this world. Because we believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person, there is no one we can leave behind. On this Pride Sunday, we recommit ourselves to the work of hospitality, inclusion, and justice.
Oct. 21: My Personal Journey: Learning to understand and appreciate both sides of the Israel/Palestine conflict
Guest Speaker Avram Sacks will share “My Personal Journey: Learning to understand and appreciate both sides of the Israel/Palestine conflict.” This is a timely topic in a world where so many of us experience painful divisions, suffering and sadness. It is an urgent opportunity, in the face of our despair, to learn from each other toward a new vision of our future.
Oct. 28: When the Veil is Thin: Encountering Ancestors
All around the world people take time to honor their ancestors. In many cultures, this is the time of year when those celebrations take place. This service will invite people of all ages to think about ancestors and learn about ceremonies, symbols, and stories of these times when the veil between worlds is said to be thin. You are invited to bring a picture or memento to place on our altar of remembrance.
