Sunday services in February 2019

Here’s a look at services taking place in February 2019. The Soul Matters theme for the month is “Trust.” Services take place at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday in RVUUF’s Great Hall. Gathering music begins at 10:25 a.m.

Feb. 3: Trust as an Act of Resistance
Trust is necessary in every relationship, every system, every community. But we aren’t taught much about how it works or how to create it. What does it take to trust? What does it mean to be trustworthy? Rev. Sean will lead us in an exploration of trust. On this Super Bowl Sunday, Rev. Sean also challenges you to “supersize” your donation to the Food Bank.

Feb. 10: Princess Hyacinth: The Surprising Tale of a Girl Who Floated
Princess Hyacinth has a problem: she floats. And so the king and queen have pebbles sewn into the tops of her socks, and force her to wear a crown encrusted with the heaviest jewels in the kingdom to keep her earthbound. But one day, Hyacinth comes across a balloon man and decides to take off all her princess clothes, grab a balloon, and float free. Hooray! Alas, when the balloon man lets go of the string … off she goes.

Feb. 17: In What Do You Trust?
As we reflect on trust and where we find it, three of our members will share from their own life experience. Racial Equity Coalition will be the third-Sunday offering recipient; Alma Rosa Alvarez will speak.

Feb. 24: Having Faith vs. Being Faithful
More and more UU congregations are changing their pedagogy from “Religious Education” to “Lifespan Faith Formation.” Unitarian Universalists sometimes have trouble with the word “faith.” But all of us hope to be faithful to our values, our commitments, and the people we love. What does it mean to be a faithful Unitarian Universalist? Rev. Sean will ask and answer questions of faith and faithfulness. The service will be followed by the second of our congregational conversations about the future. The topic of the conversation will be “Lifespan Faith Formation.”
