Here’s a look at services taking place in February 2017. Services take place at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday in RVUUF’s Great Hall. Gathering music begins at 10:25 a.m.
Feb. 5: Ecological Wisdom for Challenging Times
Guest minister, the Rev. Michael Dowd will speak about “Ecological Wisdom for Challenging Times.” In troubled times that threaten to overwhelm us, a vision of possibility is essential. Rev. Dowd, author of Thank God for Evolution, will provide a science-based, “big history” sense to help us see our way forward. Alison Duren-Sutherland will be Worship Leader. Donations to the Food Bank are requested.
Feb. 12: To Be or Not to Be: Enough
Rev. Nan L. White will speak about reframing what it means to “be enough” as we look toward the future, especially while living with all the uncertainties we face in our lives at this time.
Feb. 19: Reflective Conversations on Our Journey Together
The years from 2013 to 2017 have brought about change in the life of RVUUF. After paying attention to the report from the District’s Healthy Congregations team, which suggested areas of congregational life that needed attention, followed by the Developmental Ministry offering ways to help nurture change for the common good, it brings us to the present.
The Board and the Committee on Fellowship Ministry are asking you to participate in a Focus Group to help assess what we most value now and where we need to continue to improve in order to sustain RVUUF for the future. The Focus Groups will meet during the Sunday service, after lighting the chalice, because the Sunday hour of 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. promises the most people present and ensures not adding another meeting to anyone’s schedule. There will be no “Time for All Ages” during this Sunday’s service. Guardians/parents should take their children to their Religious Explorations classes as they arrive.
Feb. 26: Circle of Life: What’s UP?
Rev. White’s message, “Circle of Life: What’s UP?,” will juxtapose two metaphors, a ladder and a circle, regarding our approach to life and to the communal experience referred to as worship. Be ready for a new way to appreciate RVUUF’s communal experience.
