Steward’s Corner: Sense of community without dogma

Nine years ago I was attending a divorce support group. The facilitator had recommended that we take care of five things in our lives: Sleep, Nutrition, Exercise, Friends and something Spiritual.

I was working on the first four but I had no idea what to do about No. 5.

I was raised Catholic but stopped going when I graduated from high school. I really had a hard time believing what they taught, however, I did love the activities we did with other families. They are some of my fondest memories of growing up.

I wanted that sense of community without the dogma but didn’t know that was possible.

Thanks to Lorraine Linder for introducing us to Unitarian Universalism. After only one Sunday I knew it was a perfect fit. One of my better decisions in life.

When Sofia and I travel we love to check out other UU churches. So far none compare to RVUUF. We love our church family and we are so grateful to be a part of RVUUF.
