Steward’s Corner: Our small lights can help dispel darkness

On summer nights, when I was young, I would lean out my bedroom window and gaze at the New York City skyline. Since the “Parkway” ran close-by the house, I could also watch the bumper-to-bumper traffic on Sunday evenings, from families returning from a weekend at the Jersey Shore. Years later you could see the Twin Towers being built from that same window.

During “Vietnam,” I was drafted, but attended navigator school, after which I became an air transport navigator. I’ve been to Tehran more times than I’ve been to Philadelphia, where Krynn (who I later met in graduate school and married) and I lived for most of our lives together. We have two adult children, Benjamin (Bunny) and Peter (Rabbit), of whom we are exceptionally proud!

So why support RVUUF? It’s simple. I believe that, despite all, there is an amazing power that resides within all of us. To me, RVUUF is a constant source of validation that my own small “light,” as both a scientist and a caring human being, when combined with the light of others, can help dispel the darkness. Together, we are powerful beyond measure; alone, we can only hope for the best.
