RVUUF is examining the Soul Matters theme of “Hope” during December 2017, and this theme will be reflected in its Sunday services. Services take place each Sunday morning in RVUUF’s Great Hall. Gathering music begins at 10:25 a.m. and the service starts at 10:30 a.m.

Dec. 3: Hoping Against Hope
So many things converge this time of year that call for us to be hopeful. Advent, Chalica, Bodhi Day, World AIDS Day, and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities all happen this week. In the midst of all this, how do we find and sustain hope? What is hope anyway, and what does it mean in these times?

Dec. 10: Hope In Action
Hope is more than a feeling, more than an attitude. It is a call to act. What do our hopes call us to do? How can we support one another in being Hope in Action?

Dec. 17: Don’t Let the Light Go Out
Did you know that the Hanukkah story is actually two stories in one, and that they have competed for centuries? Come learn about the two stories, why they are important, and what we can learn from the Macabbees and the Miracle.

Dec. 24: Turning Toward the Light
Join fellowship member Alison Duren-Sutherland for a ritual celebration of the Pagan solar festival of Yule, when even as the darkness is deepest, the light is reborn. Guest musician this morning will be vocalist/pianist Adey Garner.

Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve service, 4:30 p.m.): When Hope Was Born
In this traditional Christmas Eve service, we will sing carols, hear the old story of the nativity, and ponder how each of us brings hope into the world.

Dec. 31: Going Forward: The Way Leads On
As we sit on the cusp of another year, time taps on our shoulder and reminds us that a mindful life is lived with hope and intention. What does this mean to us? Inspiring music, prose, and sharing will support our exploration. Guest musician will be Adey Garner.
