Services address ‘Faith’ in February

RVUUF is examining the Soul Matters theme of “Faith” during February 2016, and this theme will be reflected in its Sunday services. Services take place each Sunday morning in RVUUF’s Great Hall. Gathering music begins at 10:25 a.m. and the service starts at 10:30 a.m.

Feb.7: This I Believe
A program on NPR titled “This I Believe” engaged listeners in a discussion of the core beliefs that guide their daily lives. Rev. White has selected a few stories from the two-book series, This I Believe (This I Believe, Inc. in partnership with Henry Holt and Company, 2006 and 2008).

Feb. 14: Life, Love and Faith
“Life, Love and Faith,” a sermon lifting up the life of Susan B. Anthony coupled with Valentine’s Day. Rev. White will speak about the connections between life, love and faith. After the service, everyone is encouraged to spread the love around RVUUF by giving each other Valentines during coffee hour. Ready-made UU-themed Valentines and Valentine-making supplies will be available for anyone to use. You could also bring your own Valentines from home.

Feb. 21: A People of Faith
What does it mean to be a people of faith in today’s world? Rev. White will capture stories of faithful Unitarian Universalists who have passed the torch of a progressive people of faith into the 21st century.

Health Care for All Oregon (HCAO) will receive the third-Sunday offering. HCAO is a coalition of more than 80 organizations representing labor, businesses, health care professionals, faith communities and groups of diverse citizen activists around the state to create a comprehensive, equitable, publicly funded, high-quality, universal health care system serving everyone in Oregon. Its Rogue Valley members include RVUUF, Peace House, the Jefferson Center and more. Sandra Coyner will speak briefly on behalf of HCAO.

Feb. 28: Youth Speaks
The Teen Theatre group of the Lotus Rising Project presents a program of skits and readings that explores sexuality, bullying and other issues of concern to young people. Some content may be disturbing. The congregation will also hear from the youth of RVUUF’s own Religious Explorations Program.
