James C. (Jim) Key, moderator of the Unitarian Universalist Association, will speak at RVUUF on Sunday, Sept. 27. The title of his sermon is, “On Being Brave, Bold, and Bodacious.”

Jim will reflect on the promises we make as a covenantal, liberal faith and the prophetic voice it requires of us.

Jim will also lead RVUUF’s board retreat on Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26 at RVUUF. Surrounding UU congregational boards are invited to attend the Saturday portion of the retreat from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Jim Key was elected moderator at the June 2013 General Assembly to a single, six-year term. As moderator, Jim chairs the UUA Board of Trustees, facilitates the business sessions at General Assembly and serves as chief governance officer. He consults regularly with leaders and administrative committees at the national, regional, district and congregational levels.

Jim has served the UU faith from the ground up – helping to start a new congregation in Beaufort, S.C. and serving as its president for five years. He also served as vice president, then president, of the UUA’s Thomas Jefferson/Southeast District.

Jim facilitated the organizing meeting for the Southern Region of the UUA and served on several committees at the UUA, which included chairing the UUA Audit Committee.

Jim is married to Liz Key. They have three children with partners from various ethnicities and six grandchildren.
