The Anti-Racism Group at RVUUF meets via Zoom twice monthly for learning and discussion about recognizing structures in our society and community that privilege Euro-American people and function to disadvantage minorities, especially but not exclusively African-Americans. Our learning comes from readings and experiences in the world. It is a helpful background for improving human relations in one’s own life, for activism, and for understanding the news through a sharper lens.
The group will be ready to once again admit new members in the fall. All current members have read or are reading White Fragility and some have also read Waking Up White. These are helpful introductory sources. Please start reading if you plan to join the group in the fall. Here are the full titles and authors:
White Fragility:Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism
by Robin DiAngelo
Waking up White: and Finding Myself in the Story of Race by Debby Irving
There are usually copies of White Fragility available to borrow from the RVUUF library. Both titles are readily available for purchase through book stores and online book dealers.
