RVUUF Choral Scholars

Perhaps you’ve noticed several new, young faces in our choir recently; these are RVUUF’s Choral Scholars, students at Southern Oregon University.

We currently have a trio: Bailey Snelgrove (soprano,) Cece Dietlein (alto,) and Michael Jones (baritone.) Still looking for a tenor!

This program has been made possible by a generous bequest from the estate of Audrey Sochor, former member of RVUUF and the choir. The bequest was specifically designated to support and enhance music at RVUUF.

After deliberation, the Music Committee agreed that a quartet of music students, one in each section of the choir, could support our volunteer singers, provide weekly continuity, and assist in presenting quality music each Sunday that is inspiring and uplifiting.

Additionally, these students will provide special music on Sundays when the choir isn’t singing. You’ll hear them this Sunday singing the folk tune “Give Me Birds at the Dawning.”

The choral scholars receive a modest stipend, thanks to the Sochor bequest. They also have the opportunity to gain experience as professional musicians. And we benefit from their beautiful voices and youthful enthusiasm!

There will be a reception to welcome our choral scholars after the worship service on Sunday, Nov. 29. I hope you will take the opportunity to meet and welcome them!
