Beacon Press shares resources for dealing with Orlando shooting

In a post to its newsletter, Beacon Press recently shared resources for dealing with the Sunday, June 12, shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla.

“Some of the resources that deal with these difficult subjects include the UUA’s Gun Violence protection page. Here you can not only view various educational resources, letters and petitions regarding gun violence, but also UUA president Rev. Peter Morales’ statement on the Orlando mass shooting. You can also read about the myths of pro-gun violence slogans by Dennis Henigan, author of the upcoming title “Guns Don’t Kill People, People Kill People”: And Other Myths About Guns and Gun Control.

“Many Beacon authors have also written about how this tragedy intersects with current climate of xenophobia and Islamaphobia in the US. We invite you to read a piece by Haroon Moghul, author of the upcoming title How To Be A Muslim in America, titled How Muslims Can Fight Extremism. Also worth noting is a piece in Dame Magazine titled When Hates Collide by Rafia Zakaria, author of The Upstairs Wife.

“We also have a large selection of LGBTQ books on our Queer Perspectives page at 25% off. These include titles such as A Queer History of the United States, God vs Gay, Faitheist, Love’s Promises, and much more.

“And lastly, we have three recent blog posts from Beacon Broadside addressing America’s longstanding history with mass violence and embracing one’s LGBTQ identity.”
