Although the air is a bit better, recently, here are a few tips to help keep you safer from our smoky skies. (More on the RVUUF blog….)
1) If you have central air &/or heating, turn your fan to “on”. That way, even if the heat or A.C. does not come on, your air will be being filtered.
2) Only filters rated MERV 13 & above will do a good job of removing smoke particles (MERV 12 are fairly good). They’re more expensive – but what are your lungs worth?
3) When the air is bad, your filters will clog surprisingly fast. Weekly, hold up your current filter next to a new one & view through them at a light source. While most are not designed to be reused, vacuuming or squirting a hose spray can reduce the clogging to some degree. Pay attention to the air flow direction on the filter when cleaning & replacing.
4) If you don’t have a central system, you can still improve things by attaching a filter to your window A.C. or even to a strong fan to help filter the air in your space.
