President’s Post: RVUUF is awash in talent

As I write this, I ask myself, “What does the congregation want or need to know at this time?” Having retired from her teaching position at Bryn Mawr, Krynn Lukacs has brought her many skills and passion to our RE program. We are all grateful to have more family events, e.g. dinners and craft fairs. Yea, Krynn!

RVUUF is awash in talent. The three choral scholars from SOU, Michael, Bailey and Cece, contribute their beautiful voices to our choir and sing on off-choir Sundays. Shaun continues to improve our choir. It is a joy to sing under her direction.

Several ad-hoc teams are active. One is reviewing the rental rates. Is it worth Dawn’s time to do one-time rentals? We generously provide our facility free about 30 hours each month to the following groups: LGBTQ Elder’s Luncheon, Transgender Parents, Teen Theater, Great Decisions, New Day Breakfast, and Living Well Circle. This is a generous gift to the Rogue Valley Community.

A second ad-hoc team is writing the history of RVUUF. We need to record our 62-year history while there are folks around who still remember It. Our Founder’s Celebration in November focused attention on all those who have contributed to our Beloved Community. Truly we are a community that cares about and cares for each other

A third ad-hoc team is creating a process to involve the whole congregation in the review of our mission/vision. Their goal is to end up with a mission/vision which is embraced whole-heartedly by the congregation.

If you want to look at governance documents, here is how you do it. Go to “www.rvuuf.org.” Click on “About,” scroll down to “Governance” and click. From the “Governance” page on the RVUUF website, scroll down and look for links to documents in Google Drive, including an organization chart, financial records, Board minutes, policies and bylaws.

What is it like to serve on the Board? Exciting, rewarding and empowering! I have learned new skills and concepts. The support of my Board colleagues, Rev. Nan and the congregation has been unflagging. I have had the opportunity to implement some of my ideas. Serving on the Board can make a difference in the life of this community. Is this your calling?
