President’s Post: Group writing RVUUF history

Kudos to Krynn Lukacs for her Craft Fair in December. There were 15 stations staffed by volunteers where participants could make various craft projects, anything from gingerbread houses to bourbon balls to jewelry; something for everyone. What an amazing idea and organizational achievement.

We have a group writing the RVUUF history, both a short 500-word document for the website and a long comprehensive document. The archival notebooks that live on top of the library book shelves are a treasure trove. Elinor Knight is assembling archival notebooks for the past five years. Writing the history is Beth Coye, Victoria Law, Roy Kindell and Delores Nims.

Another group is creating a process to help the congregation develop a new mission that resonates with our RVUUF community. Recently, Rev. Nan has been talking about our mission in her sermons and the next step is to provide an opportunity for input by the whole congregation on Jan. 31. Fortunately, our district liaison, Janine Larsen, has been consulting with us and will join us on the 31st. This planning group is Krynn Lukacs, Sara Reynolds, Katy Fox, Rev. Nan and Delores Nims.

I’ve been chatting with some of the committee chairs about what would strengthen their committee?

What obstacles do they experience? Judging from their comments, it appears that some of the committees struggle with communication, e.g. perhaps they have a committee of 10 people, each with a different opinion on the issue. How can they move to consensus?

It occurs to me that these are exactly the skills that Rev. Cat Cox teaches. Some of us have studied “Empowered Communication” with Cat, but others haven’t had the opportunity. If this interests you, talk to Rev. Nan.
