It is with sad hearts that we tell you Joanne Crane died September 16th. She was almost 92 and lived a very full life. Here is her obituary:
Joanne Lowe Crane, 91 of Ashland Oregon was born on October 6th, 1931, and passed away on September 16th, 2023. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to, Jenny Louise Southerland, and Coral Earl Lowe. She grew up in California and spent most her of her youth in a boarding school. She always valued education and she received a Bachelor’s degree at UCLA, and a Master’s degree at San Jose State. She spent her career as a schoolteacher in California and taught all grade levels but had a special heart for Middle schoolers. Joanna loved to travel and went to countless countries. She even traveled to Europe by herself in her early 20s. Joanne was a member of Friendship Force and along with staying in other countries, she also hosted families in San Jose, California.
Joanne enjoyed the arts almost as much as travel and frequently attended symphonies, operas, and plays. She moved to Ashland Oregon in 2005 with her husband Norman Crane to be near the Oregon Shakespeare festival they had both enjoyed together for many years. In addition to enjoying travel and the arts, Joanne felt it important to give back and spent many years volunteering at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center in Santa Cruz, along with being members of Casa, and the Unitarian Fellowship. She was also actively involved in her community of Mountain Meadows. Joanne is survived by her two Grandchildren, Joe Livingston, and Erika Munch, along with seven Great Grandchildren. She was a strong woman and helped raise strong and independent Grandchildren and make this world a better place. She will be missed.
