New Mission Statement for RVUUF

A new mission statement has been born! To refresh your memory as to how we arrived at this moment, last summer the Process Team was tasked by the Board to create a process that includes congregational input for a new mission statement.

A Writing Team was formed to wordsmith using all the data from an Appreciative Inquiry service in January, cottage meetings in March, including online and paper feedback for those who could not physically be present. Approximately 120 members participated in the process in one way or another.

The first six draft statements presented in March were in sentence form. After hearing all the feedback, the collective wisdom suggested action verbs would better describe RVUUF’s purpose.

Our mission is:
To embrace diversity
To empower connection
To engage in the work

Each of these phrases encapsulates the values of RVUUF and the principles of Unitarian Universalism as it points to RVUUF’s vision of: An open community practicing compassion, nurturing spirit, living justice and protecting the earth.

May 8 and 22 offer a time for the Process and Writing Teams to answer any questions you may have, then on May 22, the congregation will vote on the mission statement.
