Members of the RVUUF’s Anti-Racism team invite you into their Advancing Racial Justice book reading circle held on the second Thursday of each month.
Our next gathering will be Thursday, 6/11/2026, 6 to 7:30pm, at RVUUF under the balcony in our great hall and we will be discussing the second half of Not a Nation of Immigrants – Settler Colonialism, White Supremacy, and a History of Erasure and Exclusion by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, chapters six through the conclusion (pages 149-283).
“[Dunbar-Ortiz] debunks the pervasive and self-congratulatory myth that our country is proudly founded by and for immigrants, and urges readers to embrace a more complex and honest history of the United States.
Whether in political debates or discussions about immigration around the kitchen table, many Americans, regardless of party affiliation, will say proudly that we are a nation of immigrants. In this bold new book, historian Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz asserts this ideology is harmful and dishonest because it serves to mask and diminish the US’s history of settler colonialism, genocide, white supremacy, slavery, and structural inequality, all of which we still grapple with today.”
Our book group is registered at Bloomsbury Books in Ashland (book group #174) where we receive a 20% discount. Order early as our books are not always in stock and it may take a week or two to arrive.
Lori Nitchals and Suzanne Andersen will co-facilitate the sessions. We welcome you into deep connection, making new friends, and bending the arc of history towards justice.
