RVUUF’s Social Justice and Action (SJA) Committee will screen “I Am Not Your Negro,” 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, “under the balcony” at RVUUF. Discussion will follow the screening.
“I Am Not Your Negro” is a 2016 documentary film directed by Raoul Peck, based on James Baldwin’s unfinished manuscript, Remember This House. Narrated by actor Samuel L. Jackson, the film explores the history of racism in the United States through Baldwin’s reminiscences of civil rights leaders Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr, as well as his personal observations of American history.
The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature, and was also nominated for an Oscar. It received a “Best Documentary” nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards and received a Creative Recognition Award from the International Documentary Association.
