We are headed into the last month of the 2014-2015 church/fiscal year and June has a full calendar of opportunities to be together as RVUUFians where we can practice Beloved Community. The experiences will include laughter and play at our summer picnic on June 7 preceded by a FIRE DRILL exercise during the Sunday service, plus we’ll appreciate our staff (and their families) as they join us for that service and the picnic.
The month of June will continue with experiences that include installing new Board members and commissioning our delegates going to General Assembly and the Pacific Northwest District meeting in Portland. Rev. Cat Cox will be with us on June 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. with a potluck meal to follow with conversation. If you’ve heard anyone talk about their experience with Rev. Cat and the six-week Empowered Communication classes you’ll not want to miss witnessing her work with RVUUFians on June 20.
Our busyness is winding down the year, yet there is more to do once the new fiscal year begins in July. The new Board members will be listening to how the various committees envision the 2015-2016 church year related to our five-year goals, all during a pizza and beer dinner on July 9. These committee goals for 2015-2016 will be shared with each other and inform the Board how they can be supportive of committee work in the coming year. Even if you are not serving on one of the committees feel free to join this event to gain insight and information as to how we will live into the new church year.
Summertime around RVUUF is not much different than any other time of the year, yet the need to slow down becomes a spiritual practice for anyone in a leadership position. If we continue our busyness for the sake of busyness there’s a greater chance we’ll miss each other in the midst of ‘getting something done’! My hope for all of us as we WIND-DOWN 2014-2015 and WIND-UP for 2015-2016 is to take some time to reflect ‘from whence we came’ and ask ‘where are we going?’ The need for transition is very real if we want to end well and begin well. I’ll say more about this on June 14, another busy Sunday headed our way. In the meantime, practice slowing down to see each other……”I see you”……..When you do, you might even see yourself in a new way……”I am here.”
