Food bank collection adds homeless supplies

As reported in this week’s “News to Note” email newsletter: Something new will be added to RVUUF’s Food Bank collection on the first Sunday of the month. The Social Justice Committee has approved adding an extra box marked for supplies for the homeless.

The items will be used at the shower and laundry trailer run by the Ashland Community Resource Center and Options for Homeless Residents of Ashland.

Many of the “basic” necessities that people may take for granted are urgently-needed supplies among Ashland’s homeless population. These include soap and toothpaste samples, toothbrushes, bath towels, socks, band aids, deodorant, lip balm, chewable vitamins, lotion, sunscreen, tissues, wet wipes and feminine hygiene products.

Bring these items in a separate bag from your food donations on the first Sunday of the month. There will be boxes clearly marked for food or for homeless supplies.

The Social Justice Committee reminds members of RVUUF that “food continues to be a top priority for struggling families in our area.” Contributions of food and money will support the Ashland Emergency Food Bank that serves the hungry in Ashland and Talent.
