RVUUF’s Christian Connections group is celebrating five years since its founding in November of 2015. Started under the leadership of RVUUF members Beth Coye, who recently moved out of the area, and Margaret St. Clair, UU Christian Connections has a core membership of six or seven with others coming and going over time as their circumstances permit. The group meets more or less regularly every other Saturday around some subject or topic, with occasional side trips into matters of immediate interest, import or concern. It is not a formal study group in the traditional sense.
Initially the group spent time examining the origins of both the Unitarian and Universalist faiths, original beliefs of each and Christianity for UUs today. Recently the group has considered The Gospel of Thomas and The Gospel of Mary Magdalene. This year the overall subject is The Gospel of Philip, the examination of which is just beginning. The major highlights from the last five years were the presentation of two well-received Easter Services, especially the second one addressing resurrection—a problematic subject for many UUs.
The UU Christian Connections group welcomes new members with an interest in the Christian perspective.
