Anti-racism Group Tours at Black History Event

Rosalie Wolf, Suzanne Andersen, Kate Cleland-Sipfle, and Phil Westergaard of RVUUF’s Anti-racism Group recently joined about 30 others participating in a guided walking tour the Jacksonville Cemetery held by the Salem-based “Oregon’s Black Pioneers”.

A single grave stone at the “paupers’ gravesite” gave the names and dates of scores of the town’s inhabitants, most residing in the Kenoka flats section of town. They traveled by covered wagon from the American South and were among Oregon’s first black settlers.

RVUUF’s Anti-racism group plans events like these and meets twice a month via Zoom. For more information call Suzanne at (860) 428-7231.
