Volunteer Opportunity at the Ashland Community Shelter

I want to share how good providing food at the Ashland Community Shelter made me feel today. I just signed on to Meal Train to let them know I’d provide food for a day this week, found three people (Roger Best, Bill Montfort and Zoe Laidlaw) to help, and devised a menu that we could provide for 30-35 people at the shelter. We met at the shelter at 4:30 on the appointed day, and took our food into the kitchen or got people there to carry it in for us.

It was especially fulfilling to see how much the residents appreciated our contributions. It was a good opportunity to see how people are being housed there; with beds provided and some space to keep possessions, separate rooms for women and space for families, plus the pallet homes and car parking in the parking lot.

I recommend it for an uplifting experience, especially for the holidays, if you’re in town and able to bring something! It is easy to sign up on Meal Train, and find other people to help you get a meal together for 30-40 people, a number that is increasing daily. It’s a great way to share what you can, and not difficult to do! – Vida Taylor, RVUUF Board Member
