Our RVUUF Christmas traditions include gift crafting fun in early December, and the passing of the flame between hand-held candles on Christmas eve. While we can’t participate in these rituals the same ways we have in the past, we’re adapting them this year to empower connection and keep our community safe. There are many ways for you to get involved, detailed in the announcements in this section.
- Drive or walk by on Christmas eve starting at 5pm to give socks/mittens/undies for unhoused neighbors and receive enough candles and bobeches to pass the flame within your own household. Masks & social distancing required.

Decorate Drip-Protectors for Christmas Candles
Contact Lois Pettingher via email HERE to set up pick-up and delivery of “bobeches,” candle-wax drip protectors that we will be handing out on Christmas Eve for folks to light a candle and sing Silent Night at home. Draw a festive picture or write a heart-felt message, and coordinate with Lois to get those back to the church to share with our beloved community. -
Record a Holiday Message for Our Community
Similar to our Water Ceremony in August, let’s co-create a service including holiday wishes, blessings, images, etc. from YOU to share with our community online on Christmas Eve. Click HERE to schedule a 15 minute Zoom session with Ministerial Intern Alison to record your holiday greeting for the RVUUF community. Consider finding a place where you have a festive (or at least not distracting) back-drop to record in front of. You can also record on your own device (horizontal/landscape videos please!) and share them with Alison; contact her at intern.minister@rvuuf.org or via voice/text at 541.291.1718 if you’re not sure how to get your video to her. If you’d rater contribute an image that evokes a holiday memory, feel free to send that to Alison as an email attachment. -
What We Need on Christmas Eve
Can you donate any of the following to help with our outdoor, masked & socially-distanced drive/walk by Christmas Eve experience? Large plastic storage tubs with lids, grounded outdoor extension cords 25 feet or longer, holiday yard blow-up decorations, your time in the late afternoon/early evening on 12/24. If you have any of these things to share for Christmas Eve, please email Alison HERE or call/text 541.291.1718.
