Sunday services, January 2017

Here’s a look at services taking place in January 2017. Services take place at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday in RVUUF’s Great Hall. Gathering music begins at 10:25 a.m.

Jan. 1: “Do-It-Yourself Prophecy”
YOU have a valuable perspective. YOU have wisdom to share with the world. Fellowship member Alison Duren-Sutherland will explore how our Unitarian Universalist faith reassures us that it is essential to speak our truth, to power and to each other, even when our voices shake. The congregation’s choice for the mission jingle will be announced Jan. 1.

Jan. 8: “Prophecy of Interfaith”
Rev. Nan L. White’s message focuses on the importance of Interfaith relationships and dialogue through the story of an American Muslim whose greatest learning was catalyzed by a moment of failure to speak.

Jan. 15: “Dr. King’s Refrigerator”
During a celebration remembering the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rev. Nan L. White will share prophetic learnings as she speaks of Dr. King’s Refrigerator, the unlikely place he went looking for guidance during the civil rights movement.

Jan. 22: “How do we weave the spiritual with the political?”
How do we weave the spiritual with the political? This is a timely prophetic question to be answered by a religious community, like RVUUF, who promotes justice. Rev. White will speak about models for congregational mobilization for justice.

Jan. 29: Social Justice and Action
The Social Justice and Action Committee will present the Sunday message. On the fifth Sunday of every month the offering collected will be given to the Ministerial Discretionary Fund to respond to needs of the members and public who are in dire need of financial help.
