Christmas-Eve and Christmas-Day services are among those taking place in December 2016. Sunday morning services take place at 10:30 a.m. in RVUUF’s Great Hall. Gathering music begins at 10:25 a.m.
Dec. 4: Where Are We Now?
In the aftermath of our long, damaging election campaign, the painful, divisive wounds in our nation and our world become increasingly clear. As we embrace our diversity and seek to empower our connections, we face the work of coming to terms with this new and very uncertain reality. The choir will offer inspiration and Mary Rexford as Worship Leader will facilitate personal stories of different perspectives and pathways through these challenges.
Dec. 11: Lessons from the Dark
As a religious community that honors the light, is it possible to befriend the dark together? Rev. White’s sermon is titled “Lessons from the Dark,” gleaning from ancient texts and contemporary stories that question the need to be afraid of the dark.
Dec. 18: Community, Compassion, Courage
“Community, Compassion, Courage,” Rev. White’s sermon title, will focus on the power of each when people create a circle, the symbol of no beginning and no end.
Dec. 24: Christmas Eve Service
Christmas Eve at RVUUF, Saturday, Dec. 24, will feature beautiful music, traditional carols, a candle lighting ceremony, and an exploration of the symbolic nature of this holiday through poetry, prose and song. Join RVUUF for a thoughtful reflection on the true spirit of Christmas. Music begins at 4:15 p.m. Service starts at 4:30.
Dec. 25: A True Christmas Story
On Christmas Day, Rev. White will lead the congregation in a service focusing on the birth of Jesus through music and readings. Her homily is titled, “A True Christmas Story.”
