April Pick for Advancing Racial Justice Book Study Circle

Members of the RVUUF’s Anti-Racism team invite you into their book reading circle held on the second Thursday of each month. Our next gathering will be Thursday, April 9, 2026, 6 to 7:30pm under the balcony in our great hall. We will be discussing It’s Not You, It’s Capitali$m by Malaiki Jabali.

“Being radicalized has never been so much fun! Malaika Jabali’s brilliant little volume is a laugh out loud exploration of the toxic relationship most of us have with capitalism and a clear-eyed road map for a more just, equitable, and sustainable future.”

-Kristen R. Ghodsee, author of Everyday Utopia.

Malaika Jabali is the Senior News and Politics Editor at Essence Magazine. She received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was an Articles Editor for the Columbia Journal of Race and Law, and an M.S. from the Columbia University School of Social Work. She is a licensed attorney who has written laws and worked in housing policy for the New York City Council and the former Co-Chair of Operation P.O.W.E.R., a grassroots organization based in Brooklyn focused on bringing Black radical politics to New York City.

Lori Nitchals and Suzanne Andersen will co-facilitate the sessions. We welcome you into deep connection, making new friends, and bending the arc of history towards justice.
