Shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg

The horrific shooting today in Roseberg will bring about trauma for many people, including our UU friends.

The Pacific Northwest District Clergy are supporting Rev. Annie Holmes, Minister Emerita of Umpqua Unitarian Universalist Church, Roseburg, a 45-member congregation. She tells us she’s pretty sure that folks in the fellowship will be affected, though names have not been released yet. She expects it will all sink in more deeply when they know more about who has been killed. I have personally reached out to her offering my support and assistance.

I ask that you hold this community in your thoughts and prayers this weekend. I’m aware my Sunday off is this weekend so I’ve asked our Worship Leaders to include lifting up the community of Roseburg during the time for silence and lighting the Peace Candle element of our service. A small and seemingly insignificant gesture during such a terrible crisis, yet a practice we all must continue.

I suggest tonight, in the comfort of your homes with loved ones surrounding you in thought or presence, to light a candle for Roseburg.
