Members of the RVUUF’s Anti-Racism team invite you into their book reading circle held on the second Thursday of each month. Our next gathering will be Thursday, January 8 from 6 to 7:30pm, under the balcony in our great hall.
Our next book discussion will be on The Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States, by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz. There is also a young adult version for those who are interested in sharing the book with a younger audience. The following is an excerpt from an article by the UUA:
“An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States is an extraordinary book by Indigenous scholar and activist Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz that challenged readers to learn US history through a narrative that centers the story, the experiences, and the perspectives of Indigenous peoples. Upending myths and misinformation that have been promulgated by leaders and media, it asks readers to reconsider the origin story of the United States taught to US schoolchildren.”
Here is a link to the written text of the author’s speech at the 2020 UUA General Assembly.
Lori Nitchals and Suzanne Andersen will co-facilitate the sessions. We welcome you into deep connection, making new friends, and bending the arc of history towards justice.
