If you’ve read even just headlines in recent years you know about the crisis of book banning in southern states. If you saw the documentary “The Librarians” at AIFF last week you also know the fervor and power of the movement.
The Special Election on May 20 might not feel like a big deal. But this year, it really, really is, especially in parts of the Rogue Valley that are north of Talent and Phoenix.
A well-funded group calling themselves the “Oregon Education Project” intends to take over our school boards and library boards. It’s part of Project 2025 – the plan to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion in classrooms, lessons, and in the books we read.
This group wants to implement Project 2025 right here in the Rogue Valley.
It’s impossible to tell who the candidates are just by reading the voters’ pamphlet. Indivisible ORD2 had had a “non partisan support group” research candidates. If you are interested in seeing the list of candidates that they recommend, you can click “The May 20 Election is Special” and scroll down to the 2nd announcement on the page.
No Ashland or Phoenix-Talent school board candidates appear to be backed by the Oregon Education Project. All candidates in those districts would be good for schools.
