The Southern Oregon Land Conservancy’s (SOLC) mission is to conserve and enhance land in Southern Oregon to sustain our human and natural communities forever. As Oregon’s first regional, nonprofit land trust, SOLC has been collaborating with local landowners since 1978 to create conservation easements — a legal agreement that safeguards their lands in perpetuity. What began small has grown into nearly 13,000 acres of protected lands across the Rogue River region, including five exceptional preserves that SOLC fully owns and stewards. Today, Southern Oregon Land Conservancy continues to amplify our original mission by connecting people, nature, and communities. A growing path to achieving this mission is to engage community members—youth and adults—in hands-on stewardship and field education that encourage a greater appreciation and understanding of our natural environments. In 2023, nearly 2000 volunteers and students of all ages will listen, learn, and experience the wonder and importance of lasting, living nature, connecting generations to the land through permanent conservation.
