Web Site: Browsers

browsersMost newer web browsers -- that support CSS & modern web standards -- should display this site correctly.

This site also adapts its layout for the smaller screens of tablets and smartphones using "responsive web design" -- see: A Modern, Mobile Makeover for RVUUF’s web site; and Web Site: Recent Updates and screenshots.

Please contact us (Web Admin) if you experience problems or use a different browser (note: your browser version information is displayed at bottom of this page; newer versions may not be available to administrator for testing on some platforms, or may change too quickly to be updated here). Some tips & requirements follow. Browsers last tested with this site:

Windows
Mozilla: Firefox 2.x - 10.x
Microsoft: Internet Explorer 8.0; 7.0; 6.0 (not recommended) -- see Slideshow note below
Apple: Safari 3.1 - 5.1
Google: Chrome 4.x - 17.x
Opera: Opera 9.5
Mac OS X
Apple: Safari 2.x - 6.x
Mozilla: Firefox 2.x - 17.x
Google: Chrome 4.x - 23.x
iOS (iPhone, iPad)
Apple: Safari 3.x - 6.x
Opera: Mini Web 5.0
Linux, Android, ...
no testing done, but rvuuf.org should work well with Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc.

Slideshows in Internet Explorer (IE): If photos in Slideshows are blank, display vertically (temporarily while still loading is ok) or shrink to 'thumbnail' size, try the View > Refresh menu command -- or use a different browser like Firefox. A warning should appear to IE users on slideshow pages.

Font size: If text seems too large or too small, use your browser's View > Text/Zoom command:

Firefox & Chrome
View > Zoom > Zoom In/Out
Safari
View > Make Text Bigger/Smaller
Internet Explorer
View > Text Size > Larger/Smaller

Reload current web page: If you think your web browser is not showing the latest information (it may have cached an older version), use your browser's View > Reload/Refresh command:

Firefox
View > Reload
Chrome
View > Reload This Page
Safari
View > Reload Page
Internet Explorer
View > Refresh

Setting Home Page: If you would like your browser to open always to rvuuf.org, see Set Home page in Browser

PDF support -- via Adobe (Acrobat) Reader; or Mac OS X Preview -- is required to view the Newsletter and many other documents. You can usually view the PDF directly in your web browser, and optionally, download* it for later. On the iPad, besides viewing PDFs directly in the Safari web browser, you can download the file to read later in GoodReader, Apple iBooks or other viewer apps.

.doc: forms may be made available in Microsoft Word format (in addition to PDF) so that information can be typed into the document before printing or emailing. Note: we do not recommend the use of ".docx" (an incompatible and proprietary format; older versions/systems require a conversion tool which may not completely preserve layout and formatting, or a software upgrade which is expensive and confusing).

JavaScript support is required for much of this web site, including viewing of Slideshows.

Cookies should not be required in general, though they may be needed for those with rvuuf.org accounts.

Audio. No special audio support should be needed to listen to sermons (via our embedded player) in your browser. However, if you download* files for later listening, you will need appropriate player software on your computer.

Flash. We do not use Adobe Flash on this site due to security and compatibility concerns.

Video. If we provide video capability in the future, it is highly likely that we will use standard technology such as HTML5.

Java support is required for interactive crossword puzzles.
(if Java is not installed/supported/desired, puzzles are also available in PDF and .puz formats.)

*Downloading files: right-click the file link (ctrl-click for Mac users) to display a pop-up menu containing a Save/Download command:

Firefox & Chrome
Save Link As...
Safari
Download Linked File As...
Internet Explorer
Save Target As...

EPUB is an open electronic publishing (e-book) format. In the future, rvuuf.org may offer documents in this format for use on the iPad, smartphones, eReaders, and other tablets and devices.
