Theism
Belief in the existence of a god or gods, especially belief in a personal God as creator and ruler of the world. (Includes Christianity, Judaism and Islam - Abrahamic)
Natural Theism
The powers traditionally attributed to a supernatural deity are inherent in the natural world, which thus elicits my respect and devotion.
Deism
The belief, based solely on reason, in a God who created the universe and then abandoned it, assuming no control over life, exerting no influence on natural phenomena, and giving no supernatural revelation. There is a god, but with whom we cannot have a personal relationship.
Atheism
The opposite of theism. The doctrine or belief that there is no God – the disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.
"Open" Atheism
My spirituality is not defined by the existence of a god.
"Open" Agnosticism
I don't relate to the notion of "god", but I don't deny the possibility that god exists.
"Strict" Agnosticism
I don't believe we are able to know whether a god exists or not. Such knowledge is beyond human capabilities.
Humanism
I believe that human beings, not God or the supernatural, are responsible for morality and meaning and that humans must rely on one another for support and to solve life’s problems. I deny transcendent reality. (RVUUF's Humanism Group)
Earth Centered Spirituality
I celebrate the sacred circle of life, which instructs us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature.
Neopaganism or Neo-Paganism
(This an umbrella term used to identify a wide variety of modern religious movements, particularly those influenced by historical pre-Christian European "pagan" religions.) Practicing a spirituality that is entirely modern in origin, or attempting to accurately reconstruct or revive indigenous, ethnic religions as found in historical and folkloric sources.
Mysticism
A doctrine of an immediate spiritual intuition of truths believed to transcend ordinary understanding, or of a direct, intimate union of the soul with God through contemplation or ecstasy.
Feminist Spirituality
I join with others in reclaiming the Divine Feminine through honoring the sacredness of the earth.
Panentheism
The doctrine that God is the transcendent reality of which the material universe and human beings are only manifestations, It involves a denial of God's personality and expresses a tendency to identify God and nature.
Buddhism
A set of practice and spiritual development believed to lead a person towards the final realization of the true nature of life. Including the idea of “transcendence” (that is “going beyond” the ordinary consciousness) which is central to its teaching. (RVUUF's Buddhist Meditation Group)
Taoism
Advocating a life of complete simplicity and naturalness and of noninterference with the course of natural events, in order to attain a happy existence in harmony with the Tao.
