Workshop. Change the Story, Change the Future

great turningJoin Bill Scarvie to look into the future of our children’s children in an Interactive, Conversational Workshop.

A three-fold crisis looms before us: the effects of global climate disruption; the catastrophic economic consequences of dwindling resources, especially oil; and a possible collapse of the US dollar. Given our grim prospects, is there any hope? What opportunities exist to shape a positive future for our children and grandchildren? What actions can we take now to ensure that their lives will be prosperous, secure and meaningful? What is the role of the faith community in this great work?

Inspired by David Korten’s recent book, The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community, this workshop will explore these questions through introspection, intimate conversation and group discussion.

Do you want to contribute to the excellence, quality, and creativity of our Sunday Worship? Have you ever wondered if you could lead a service? Or work with the minister or Guests to craft worship? Here's your chance to learn how.

This workshop is open to active members who would like to learn more about worship practices, sharpen their writing and speaking skills, and learn a few tricks of the trade. If you want to know more about the philosophy of Unitarian Universalist worship, pick up and read the information flyer on the sign-up table at the back and consider becoming a Worship Associate.

Sunday Services

You are welcome at our Sunday Services, which take place every Sunday of the year at 10:30 (at 10:25, we will enter silence to appreciate the Gathering Music). Children's Religious Exploration ("Religious Education") occurs at the same time as the service, from mid-Sep through the end of May. Nursery care is always available during the service. Assisted Listening Receivers are available for use during services. Please see the person sitting at the Guest Table if you wish to make use of one of these receivers.

Your babies and toddlers are welcome in our worship service, with their gurgles and giggles. If you would be more comfortable, our Library is available to view and hear the service behind the glass window. It has a rocking chair and a box of toys. The room is located near the restrooms with changing tables and is within earshot of the Nursery and close to Primary class for parents who are transitioning their young ones to separation.

Job Description: To plan Sunday services and other services such as celebrations of earth-based spiritualities, Ash Wednesday, Christmas Eve., etc.

Duties:

  • To examine and improve all aspects of services to include liturgy, music, co-ordination, facilitation, locating speakers, training presenters, and maintaining a good feedback loop with the congregation.
  • To share co-ordination and facilitation of services.
  • To co-ordinate with all other relevant groups such as Decor and Sunday support.
