Performances: July 2,3,10,11 from 4-7pm, Ashland Cemetery. Actors in period costumes will portray the people who settled Ashland in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This year’s event has all new stories and characters and is a fundraiser for RVUUF and the Ashland Historic Railroad Museum. Tours depart from the Cemetery entrance every fifteen minutes and the last tour departs at 6pm. Tickets are available at the Cemetery entrance, but we recommend you purchase them in advance at Paddington Station to assure the tour of your choice. Prices are $5 for children 12 and younger, $10 for adults, and $25 for families of up to 2 adults and three children. Come play with us. We need 40 volunteers as ticket takers and tour guides for the “Meet the Ashland Pioneers.” Please sign up for a shift at the table under the balcony. This is a fun event and you will enjoy participating. Contact Delores Nims.
2009: Description; Slideshow #1; Slideshow #2
Glen Paris, a producer for RVTV, has created a DVD of Meet The Ashland Pioneers which we will show at the Fellowship on Monday, August 3rd at 7pm. In addition to the actors, she has included music, and photos of the woolen mill, and some of the pioneers' gravestones and homes.
Delores Nims said, "I was blown away by the power of this video. For the first time I understood how we brought the pioneers to life."
Thank you to all the people who helped to make "Meet the Ashland Pioneers" a success. We had about 340 people take the tour and raised $3,430 dollars, $2400 of which is profit. Half of that goes to RVUUF and half to Art in the Valley Schools. I will keep you informed about the Art project as it unfolds. If you know of artists in Jacksonville, Medford, Central Point, Phoenix, and Talent, please e-mail Delores Nims with names and phone numbers.
We will repeat this event next year with different characters and stories, so if you have suggestions please e-mail Delores; also I am interested in people who would like to do the research which will begin in Sep or Oct.
If you want to be considered for an acting part please e-mail Delores. Jan Waitt who has a masters degree in theatrical directing will be our director and drama coach next year and assist with casting.
