Cleanup Day

Date:
Sat, 03/19/2011 - 9:00am - 1:00pm

cleanupSat, Mar 19, 9am. Industrious RVUUF volunteers gather to spruce up the place. There is window washing, dusting, cobweb chasing, and a host of other small tasks that make a big difference in the looks of the Fellowship. We want it to look exceptional for Rev. Leslie's installation. There will be a sign-up poster for specific jobs a few weeks before.

Custodian: Bev Barber

BevI don’t have experiences that specifically qualified me for this job other than having the reputation of being reliable and having run a household of 7 people for 20+ years. My background is more a variety of part-time jobs that were usually related to teaching.

I graduated in 1968 with a BS in mathematics and a double minor (education and music). My first job was teaching math in a Junior High till I became pregnant with my second child. From then on I was a full time Mom and worked only part time. For example, I have substitute taught, I ran my own day care center for 3 years, I taught private piano for several years, I tutored math, I’ve sold wood stoves, ice cream and soap. After moving to Ashland in 1982, I became a foster care mother and later organized a rehabilitation program for my daughter when she suffered a serious head injury after being hit by a drunk driver.

I have been active in this church since the move to Ashland, so now I am an old-time member. When I first moved here with my past husband, our children were in the Ashland schools. The Fellowship was small and was meeting in Talent. So I became active trying to start a children’s religious program for the Fellowship. For many years I organized the Wednesday Potluck & Discussion group. I have always sung in the choir whenever we had directors. Now I keep the Everybody Group for the fellowship active. Most of my activities are connected to the Fellowship. I love it; it is my expanded family.

Slideshow. Building: Wall Project

Many thanks and appreciation must be expressed to the following ten volunteers who installed the wall alongside the new sidewalk on C Street. The work was completed in less than three weeks by a crew of devoted volunteers, tediously leveling one brick at a time. And it was built during a time when the weather was hot which dictated that it be done a couple of hours at a time in the mornings. Thanks to:

Building and Grounds (BaG) Committee

buildingCo-chairs: Bill Holmes, Morty Smith
Ministry: Religious Home (Ashland Facility)

Current members are: Bill Holmes, Dave Adams, Ron and Jan Waitt, Morty Smith, Norm Grant, Paul Kintscher, and Jim Cossolias.

Members work throughout the year as individuals or as teams to maintain and improve the physical condition and appearance of the sanctuary building as well as the Annex building next door. The routine yard work is performed by a contractor employed by the committee, as are some particular jobs of appreciable scope.

A current emphasis has been pursued on the subject of Green Sanctuary projects for the building. These projects are generally related to a reduction of energy consumption (and cost) in the operation of our building.

The committee works individually, in teams, and in coordination with many volunteers on various projects during the year: Twice a year (March and August) BaG organizes major clean-up days.
