Pride Parade takes place Saturday

RVUUF will march and pull a float this year in the Rogue Valley Pride Parade on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Set-up starts at 10:30 a.m. on Union Street (across from the Fire Station on Siskiyou Boulevard), and the parade begins at 11 a.m.

“Blooming With Pride” is the theme of this year’s parade. From this week’s “News to Note”:

“Young and young at heart are welcome. Bring a friend if you wish! Please wear rainbows, bright colors, fun costumes, or a flower in your hair. We will have UU banners and flags to carry.”

Interfaith vigil for Orlando shooting victims’ families

Havurah Shir Hadash will host an interfaith vigil at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, for the families of the victims of the mass murder in Orlando, Fla. The program will include teachings, prayers, silent meditation and songs.

Presenters include Gina DuQuenne, President of Southern Oregon Pride; Shirley Patton of First Presbyterian Church, Rabbi David Zaslow of Havurah Shir Hadash, Rev. Norma Nakai Burton of Unitry in Ashland, Father Tom Buechele of Trinity Episcopal Church, Bruce Borgerson of Ashland United Methodist Church, Rev. Nan L. White of the Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Rev. Ruth Kirby of Rogue Valley Interfaith Ministries, Bryce Ennis and Alice Di Micele.

A freewill donation box will be at the front door and all proceeds will be given on behalf of residents of Ashland to the families of the victims in Orlando. Havurah Shir Hadash is located at 185 N. Mountain Ave. in Ashland.

RVUUF to march in SOPride Parade

RVUUF will march in the Southern Oregon Pride Parade this Saturday. The parade starts at 11 a.m.

RVUUF’s float needs to line up by 10 a.m. If you are marching with RVUUF, arrive by 10:30 a.m. on Siskiyou Boulevard near the Haggen (formerly Safeway) parking lot. You are not allowed to park your car in the Haggen parking lot.

For those people who will ride on the float, RVUUF will provide carpooling from the church to near the float location. Please arrive by 10:15 a.m. if you would like a ride to the float.

SOPride Parade volunteers needed

RVUUF needs volunteers to help decorate its float for the Southern Oregon Pride Parade.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. The route goes through downtown Ashland and ends at the band shell in Lithia Park for live entertainment and booths. This year’s parade theme is “Be Yourself-Change the World.”

According to Ann Hackett and Linden Crouch, writing in this week’s “News to Note,” RVUUF has been a supporter and participant since the parade began in 2010, as a dream of Gina DuQuenne to support the LGBTQ community.
