Site Layout

There are several navigation menus -- hover your cursor over an item for a longer description of a menu item (also see annotated screenshots at end):

  • shortcut menu along the top: Sunday Services, Directions, Contact Us
  • current item path (hierarchy) horizontally below RVUUF logo
  • main, expandable navigation menu on the left

Below the navigation menu on left:

  • Member/Friend Login link -- select this if you have an account, and want to make changes to the site, or to view non-public information; eventually, each RVUUF member&friend (with an email address) will have an account
  • Search box for the RVUUF site -- enter a word or phrase
  • RVUUF Banner [Home page only]
  • Event Calendar view [Home]
  • current week's UUA banner [Home]
  • recent news from UUA (Unitarian Universalist Association) and UU World (magazine) [Home]

Main portion of Home page:

  • Introductory message
  • Next Sunday's service
  • major Announcements
  • Recent Updates of site pages
  • Upcoming Events -- note: a "RSS feed" icon RSS appears at lower right of each of these 4 sections; this links to a newsfeed URL so that you can subscribe to / view RVUUF items elsewhere -- info about newsfeeds
  • Frequent Topics -- described next
  • RVUUF address (and map link) [on every page]

In addition to the free-form Search (box), most items are tagged with pre-defined topics or keywords. The Frequent Topics section lists these topics -- the size of the topic text is larger for more frequently occuring topics. This list can be used as a rough "Site Map". Click on a topic to see a list of all items on our site tagged with this topic.

Most events and pages list topic(s) at the lower right corner -- click on a topic to list all items referred to by that topic.

"Book" items, e.g., About Us, Programs, contain a hierarchical table of contents. Items also include navigation links at the bottom: left (previous item in hierarchy), middle (up a level), right (next item).
