Apr: October Sky. The film was rated 3 1/2 stars out of four by Roger Ebert and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Cooper and Laura Dern. It is based on a true story about how a coal miner's son was inspired by the launch in 1957 of the Russian Sputnik 1, the Earth's first artificial satellite, to take up rocketry against his father's wishes, and eventually became a NASA scientist. A series of vignettes at the film's conclusion tells the later lives of the real characters upon which the movie was based.
