Maintain a Variety of Relevant Books
Provide a varied selection of interesting books covering a wide range of non-fiction topics covering subjects compatible with the interests of our congregation. Use the Catalogue from Beacon Press for guidance. Also purchase books written by our own fellowship authors.
Monitor Check-Out List
Maintain an “honor system” check out list for users with a monthly follow-up reminder call if books are not returned promptly. Re-shelve returned books after marking return date on check-out list. Books marked “REF” are for in-house perusal and not for check out. Remove items that do not belong in library
Schedule Work Days
Cull old magazines, books, videos periodically. Delete culled books from Catalogue. Black-out RVUUF name from book. Once or twice a year should be enough. Bookcase behind door should be maintained by groups that occupy space on shelves. Check with committee chairman if bookcase becomes too cluttered.
Hold Annual Book Sale to Fund New Book Purchases
Book sale advertised a month or two before it happens, usually in late fall. Sale books include culled books from library shelves as well as donations solicited from fellowship members and administration. Sale is held after a service or whenever committee decides. Prices are determined by buyer.
Update Master Catalogue
Maintain a master list of all books in library by Category, Title and Author. A Title list would be helpful as well. Periodically label and catalogue new books into system. To include new books in library: determine category, make entry in catalogue, stamp front page with RVUUF stamp, apply the appropriate category color label and ID, cover with clear protective sticky label and shelve.
Follow-up Jobs
Write a monthly notice about the library in Fellowship Newsletter. Place periodic announcements in Order of Service as necessary. Possible subjects: new books, book sale, work parties, donations, come in and get acquainted with RVUUF Library.
